Sunday 8 April: Easter services with met Tommy Tenney
On 8 April Tommy Tenney will be with us for our 10:30 am and 7 pm Sunday Easter Services. A great event to invite your friends to.
About Tommy Tenney
Tommy Tenney is the author of the multimillion-selling The God Chasers series. He recently began writing fiction and has a new involvement as Hollywood movie producer. Tommy has been able to reach millions of people through the movie: ‘One Night with the King.’ He also has a series on a fictional account of the ancient story of Queen Esther. His latest venture into fiction involves the beautiful Biblical story of Ruth with the book titled: ‘The Road Home’.
Tommy has written over 30 books. His writing has been translated into more than 40 languages and nominated for many awards including the “Gold Medallion Award” and “Retailers Book of the Year.”
Tommy spent 10 years pastoring and has spent over 30 years in itinerant ministry, traveling to more than 50 nations. He typically speaks in over 150 venues each year sharing his heart with many thousands. GodChasers television ministry is seen in over 120 nations on many different networks. His ministry website www.godchasers.net is viewed on average by more than one million people per month.
It is troubling that C3 Amsterdam is heavily promoting Tommy Tenney for their easter service and his resources. It is important we understand just who Tommy Tenney actually is. Charisma magazine writes,
“He was raised in the United Pentecostal Church (UPC), a denomination that often has been criticized for its strict standards of dress and conduct and for its requirements that converts be baptized in Jesus’ name rather than in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. He left the group, he says, when he realized that he “couldn’t enforce some of the views” of the UPC — including rules that to this day forbid pastors in the group from owning televisions. Because Tenney honors his spritual heritage, and because his parents are prominent leaders in the UPC in Louisiana, some people become suspicious of his theology when they learn about his background.” – Charisma, March, 2000, p.55.
Much has been written on Tommy Tenney’s cult connections to the Oneness Pentecostal or United Pentecostal Church (UPC) movements who deny the trinity.
We wish to point you to a stack of resources from Christian writers, ministers and teachers. The below link reveals that Tommy Tenney has his connections to the UPC cult; teaches anti-trinitarian doctrines that oppose the Christian faith; devalues the Word of God; carries an offensive tone against faithful ministers who preach the bible; twists scripture; is quick to call unity between different Christians while hiding his spots plus many other issues. This link also exposes the error in Tenney’s material which C3 Amsterdam is promoting.

Why is C3 Amsterdam allowing a heretic to speak at their easter service? Does Steve Warren know that the early church excommunicated false teachers who believe the heretical doctrines that the UPC promote?
Why is C3 inviting a man to speak who does not hold to the Christian faith?
NOTE: ALL SCREEN GRABS WERE TAKEN BEFORE 05/04/2012
Hahaha! I just ran across this in a Google search for Pastor Tenney’s website. Is this real, or is like a Christian version of The Onion? This is why the church (the body of Christ; Christians) are weakening in the eyes of the world. This website should be called Talk of the Pharisees. Why would you devote a website to tearing down your brothers and sisters in Christ? It is not your job to pass judgment on these people, that is God’s job. Your job (and the job of every Christian) is to continue to speak the word of God; the truth. Get it together, Pharisees. You are allowing the devil to divide the church just as it has been prophesied in the bible. Don’t allow yourself to become offended by what I say, look it up. Ask the Holy Spirit to provide you guidance, and remove yourself from your own personal opinions and beliefs. They will lead you astray.

Wow so well spoken we do need to realize that we should be praying for instead of talking about our brothers and sisters well said
Are you a Oneness Pentecostal, Murphy?
I believe that Jesus is Lord but I don’t engage in doctrinal disputes. With all due respect baptism was brought in for man not man for baptism. I do believe baptism is essential but the real issue is that it be down with faith the you are burying the old man and being raised in the likeness of Christ. Thanks for asking it is food for thought
Murphy – “It’s an ancient heresy on the nature of God dating back to the 3rd century. Today, the United Pentecostal Church (UPC) is the sole proponent of this heresy. The United Pentecostal Church has a reputation of forcing its members into blindly towing the “party line” under the threat of disfellowship, do not allow their members the freedom of independent thinking. You will find trying to teach a UPC the error of Modalism to be as unfruitful as trying to teach a Jehovah’s Witness the truth about blood transfusions.”
Oneness Pentecostalism (aka modalism aka sabellianism) is well documented from early church history as heresy.
” Get it together, Pharisees.”
I’ll take it as though your dressed up use of the word ‘pharisees’, that you are refering to members of an ancient Jewish sect noted for their strict obedience to Jewish traditions.
If this is the case then you should,”See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.(Colossians 2:8)”
Does seem as though Tenney is the one relying on rules taught by men.
Does the church have all her doctrine together? More importantly, does one distinct stream of Christianity have all the doctrines together? The speech of another’s beliefs should be done in graciously and not maliciously.
I have found it to be my experience that not everybody has full comprehension of every single subject within scripture. People sometimes have trouble understanding covenant or prayer or sacrifice or election or evil or theodicy or [fill in the blank] and they make the best decisions that they can with what they know. In this instance, Tommy Tenney comes from a oneness background and is most likely the result of his father’s influence. Does this make his doctrine right? No. Should this be a reason for us to make him an object of scorn? No. If that is the case, God would have even MORE right to destroy us all.
When Jesus called on the disciples, did they have it all together? Did they KNOW doctrine? Did they understand fully what Jesus was about? The answer was an outright no. And even when Jesus taught them, discipled them, had them walk beside him during his sojourns, his disciples still did not fully understand them. But yet, did He reject them? Did He stop them from approaching Him? Did He kick them out of His circle of closest friends?
I understand this blog is set up as a watchkeeper of C3; I personally am not affliated with C3 in any way. However, as a doctrine scrutinizer, might I ask what the site’s moderator(s) beliefs on the trinity are? How does Church Watch think of the Nicene Creed? And what is Church Watch’s understanding of the interellationship between the 3 persons of the Godhead? What is Church Watch’s position on the filioque clause? Do you see Jesus as the fount or God the father as the fount?
And even so with Gary MacDougall, what is your basis for the trinity? How do you back that up within scripture if the word trinity itself is not a scriptural term but was later written by Tertullian? What do you think about this same theologian, Tertullian, being a strong proponent of Apostolic Succession (which is what the Roman Catholic Church states is lacking in Protestant Churches)?
Those are all legitimate questions of mine to the both of you that I would like to have a conversation because I am geniunely interested at this point.
“Tommy Tenney comes from a oneness background and is most likely the result of his father’s influence.”
There’s no doubt whatsoever that Tenney is influenced by his father, who is the very same one who was father to those Pharisees and teachers of the law who opposed Jesus, and who ultimately conspired to have Him put to death.
Yes, Tenney is a true son of the father of lies, and so his spirit sits quite comfortably with the spirits of those who run C3.
As followers of Christ, we hold each other accountable. And as such, I end with this –
Be careful… be very careful. I am not saying that we do not judge others, but even in the judging of others that you mention in your “LoveIs What Exactly…” needs to be done with mercy and reconciliation in mind first rather than with a brazen zealousness for truth. The first question should first be, “How can I be a peacemaker rather than an antoganist of the Gospel?” What right do we have from keeping people from God, even those who have wrong doctrine? Should we not first attempt to converse with them, state what we find wrong with their doctrine and why, let them respond, understand their response, all of these things in a cordial fashion, rather than hastily use the term ex-communication?
We are called to a ministry of reconciliation, even with that of our enemies, to pray for them and not to call hell fire on them. Even in the chastisment by Apostle Paul, in the handing over of some to the devil (1 Cor. 5:5), it was done so with the intention of reconciliation.
Church Watch, you speak about the excommunication that occured within the early church; there was an abuse of it. The very same followers who believed in the trinity excommunicated the followers of Arius school of thought and vice versa. Both followers and non-followers of the trinity excommunicated one another when they were in power… same thing happens between the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church… same thing happened between the Church of England and the Church of Rome… same thing has happened between Pentecostal and Non-Pentecostal churches… same thing has happened to sex offenders… to people who have had pre-marital affairs… to people who have stolen… story after story of churches that practice this excommunication either actively or covertly. It’s not just an early church practice.
In addtion, what is your understanding of this passage?
“Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister[d] or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?” – James 4:11-12
The trinity is a post-early church doctrine. It is an imperfect human way to explain a perfect God. The Bible explains the Godhead and the divinity of Jesus sufficiently without using language such as ‘trinity’, ‘God the Son’, ‘three divine persons’ etc. so why should we? How is it cultish to not place terminology on God that the Bible doesn’t even place on God?
Jesus’ name baptism was the original formof church baptism (see Book of Acts and even the Catholic Encyclopedia). Jesus is clearly the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
You need to get over yourself.
How would you explain the gospel with your understanding of the God head?
In Romans 1:19-20 Paul writes that we can understand the Godhead, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse” The foundation of all truth is “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.” (Deut 6:4). “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24) So, God=Spirit=Word=Jesus (One person not three persons)
In all of the Old Testament, God, the Word, showed Himself in theophanies of fire, of angelic form, but he was not flesh (a person) and he never told his name; it was hidden, a secret! See Genesis 32:29, Judges 13:17-18. However, Isaiah gave us a foreshadowing of who Jesus is and was all along! Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name (JESUS) shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
Jesus is the mighty God and the everlasting Father.
Jesus said that the Father dwells in me. (John 14:10) Also, if the Father and Holy Ghost were separate persons, then the Father is not the Father of Jesus, the Holy Ghost is! “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise,: When his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.” (Matt 1:18) By definition alone, the Holy Spirit is not a person but a spirit.
Jesus is God. Jesus is the Father. Jesus is the Holy Ghost, the spirit of truth.
“For it pleased the Father that in him (Jesus) should all fullness dwell.” Col 1:19
“For in him (Jesus) dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.” Col 2:9
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)
The name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost is Jesus!
The gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (I Cor 15:1-4). John the Baptist came preaching repentance (turning from sin); Jesus continued preaching that you must be born again of the water (baptism) and of the spirit (receiving the Holy Spirit or Ghost) Romans 6:3-6. Jesus gave the keys of the kingdom to Peter, who stood up with the eleven on the day of Pentecost when asked “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” (Act 2:37). Then, “Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38).
No matter what we call ourselves, ALL Christians need to go back further than Azusa Street, further than the Reformation, further than Rome and the Nicea Council, we need to go back to Jerusalem to the birth of the church in Acts.
Throughout the book of Acts, the early church baptized in Jesus’ Name and received the Holy Ghost by speaking in Tougues. See Acts 2, 8, 10, 19.
“But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory.” I Cor 2:7-8) If Jesus is the Lord of Glory, and there is only “one Lord, one faith, one baptism” (Eph 4:5); then, the Father and the Holy Ghost cannot be two other Lords.
Once Satan realized what he had done when he killed the Lord of Glory, he had to try to take the power out of the plan of salvation. He was successful at Nicea, they took the name of Jesus Christ out of baptism, out of the plan of salvation and created the apostasy of three persons, three Lords ruling instead of One Lord and God, Jesus Christ, being the revelation of God to man. All the fullness of the Godhead dwells in him; Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the only person we will ever see. Col 1:15
Hope this helps!! Trying to share the Truth in Love and backing it up with Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation.

“Modalism is probably the most common theological error concerning the nature of God. It is a denial of the Trinity. Modalism states that God is a single person who, throughout biblical history, has revealed Himself in three modes or forms. Thus, God is a single person who first manifested himself in the mode of the Father in Old Testament times. At the incarnation, the mode was the Son; and after Jesus’ ascension, the mode is the Holy Spirit. These modes are consecutive and never simultaneous. In other words, this view states that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit never all exist at the same time–only one after another. Modalism denies the distinctiveness of the three persons in the Trinity even though it retains the divinity of Christ.
Present-day groups that hold to forms of this error are the United Pentecostal and United Apostolic Churches. They deny the Trinity, teach that the name of God is Jesus, and require baptism for salvation. These modalist churches often accuse Trinitarians of teaching three gods. This is not what the Trinity is. The correct teaching of the Trinity is one God in three eternal coexistent persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”
@ Ben Aiken – you funny old Sabellian, surely you jest?
Sounds like “modalism” to me……
In reference to “The correct teaching of the Trinity is one God in three eternal coexistent persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit”:
This teaching originated in the fourth century out of the Roman Catholic Church and is easily proved untrue by Jesus and the very definition of Spirit. Jesus says that a spirit does not have flesh and bones in Luke 24:39 like He [His person] did. A Ghost does not have flesh and bones. Thus, the Holy Spirit or Ghost is a spirit, not a person. The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of Jesus, who is God with us [Emmanuel].
God is not in three persons; “all the fullness of the Godhead dwells in him [Jesus] bodily” (the one body or person of Jesus Christ) Col 2:9. That is not hard to understand; God and the Holy Ghost are Spirit per the written word of God.
One cannot prove the concept of the trinity of three persons of flesh and bones in the Holy scriptures.
Modalism, also called Sabellianism, is a heresy, Donna.
John 14:16, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;”
The trinity is fully expressed in this verse. Jesus says HE will pray to the FATHER to send the HOLY SPIRIT.
I recommend you read (former Oneness Pentecostal) Gregory A. Boyd’s book, “Oneness Pentecostals and the Trinity”.
@ churchwatcher,
on the subject if Gregory A Boyd… I would hold off on recommending Gregory A Boyd. He is a leading voice for Open Theism, so I avoid him. I also avoid him for other reasons even in addition to this…

Anyway, just a thought,
~Andy
Thanks Andy – I was aware of his open theism. The direct to the book was more about his leaving Modalism, not about his later open theism, I should have added the disclaimer. Any more recommendations from ex-Oneness Pentecostals?
I only learned of Oneness Pentecostals via apologetics websites e.g. CARM and http://www.aomin.org

Should we be concerned T.Tenney spoke at C3 amsterdam? Yes.
should we be surprised? Sadly, no.
Tenny does offer everything C3 seems to want…moods, feelings, worldly success, ‘new’ prophecies and just plain ignore the written Word of God for something ‘different’.
Throw in some ‘best-selling books’ that reveal “another gospel” and top if off with american style, self-appointed ‘new apostles’ along with their ‘revelations’.
Yep…that sounds like c3 alright.
If you are seeking a closer walk with God, you have a Holy Bible to read, and regular prayer time. Fast and pray. He says seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be open. If you ask God for bread, will he give you a stone? Taste and see that the Lord is good! God says those who seek him in private will be rewarded openly. You will be too busy with God to worry about others. Pray for them! God Bless you and draw you even closer to him.
