Wikipedia has this to say about Phil Pringle and the C3 Movement,
“Members are taught that they are obliged to give a tithe to the church of 10% of their pre-tax (gross) income, with Phil Pringle himself having claimed that those who fail to do so are “robbing God” and that they are “cursed”.[7]” – C3 Church Global, Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C3_Church_Global, last modified on 01/06/2012 at 17:25. (Accessed 02/06/2012.)
The reference reads,
“^ Pringle, Phil. Keys to Financial Excellence (page 67).” – C3 Church Global, Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C3_Church_Global, last modified on 01/06/2012 at 17:25. (Accessed 02/06/2012.)
In ‘Keys To Financial Excellence’ on page 67, Pringle writes,
“The tithe has never belonged to us. The first tenth of our income is always God’s. As mature Christians, it should be unthinkable to hold our hand out for a blessing from God, when we have His property in our other hand.
The message of Jericho is clear: When we fail to obey God with regard to the tithe, we invite a curse into our lives-a curse that could bring with it the loss of many good things. If money that belongs to God is sitting in your bank account, the curse on that money will travel into that entire account, and it could very well dwindle away. If money that belongs to God has instead gone back into your business, then your business is in jeopardy.” – Phil Pringle, Keys To Financial Excellence, Key Twelve, The Message of Jericho, 2003, pg. 67.
Well done Wikipedia!
=====================================
If anyone wants to understand what Pringle means by the ‘message of Jericho’, watch video’s 2 and 3 in this article:
That Wikipedia page, specifically the Tithe section, was edited just one day before you posted this.
I’m sure it was just a coincidence… (roll eyes)
The Wikipedia article/pages do not exist as an “advertorial” for C3. It should be unbiased and present both positive and negative points of view in a factual and non-prejudicial manner.
With that in mind, what does it really matter if the page was edited one-day prior to the post here? Is that really an issue? Sounds like you are attempting to set up a straw-man to me.
Pringle does say that those who don’t tithe are cursed; that’s a simple fact. He’s printed that in black and white, as the Wiki article notes.
If you want to defend Phil, that’s fine but get to the issues instead of attempting to insinuate foul motives.
Oh, sorry, I didn’t realise that c3churchwatcher was the only one allowed to insinuate foul motives around here.
“I didn’t realise that c3churchwatcher was the only one allowed to insinuate foul motives around here.”
c3churchwatcher doesn’t make money of what he does, whereas Phil Pringle does make money out of what he does.
Who do you think, then, is more likely to have impure motives? (Or is that too hard for you to figure out, or is it perhaps something that you don’t care to admit?)
Read our ‘About Us’ page.
Motives aside, anyone who preaches that real Christians are required to tithe is either an avaricious “minister” or simply ignorant. The truth is that if you are really born again you are to reckon yourself dead, and dead men own nothing. Everything a Christian has belongs to God and a Christian is to do with the money that comes into his or her hand whatever the Holy Spirit leads them to do with it, up to and including 100%!
PRINGLE SAYS,
“Members are taught that they are obliged to give a tithe to the church of 10% of their pre-tax (gross) income, with Phil Pringle himself having claimed that those who fail to do so are “robbing God” and that they are “cursed”.
YET THE BIBLE SAYS,
(GALATIANS 3)
Cursed (accursed, devoted to destruction, doomed to eternal punishment) be everyone who does not continue to abide (live and remain) by all the precepts and commands written in the Book of the Law and to practice them.
11 Now it is evident that no person is justified (declared righteous and brought into right standing with God) through the Law, for the Scripture says, The man in right standing with God [the just, the righteous] shall live by and out of faith and he who through and by faith is declared righteous and in right standing with God shall live.
“Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How do we rob you?’ “In tithes and offerings.
(Malachi 3:8)
If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. …
James 1:26
James 3:9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. …
James 3:9
The Internet gives man a long tongue!
So Roger, can we deduce from the fact that you quote Mal 3:8 that you are an Israelite who is living under the Old Testament law?
I do hope you are meeting all the requirements and satisfying the arcane strictures of that law. Do be careful, it’s really easy to be tripped up by the minutiae: all it takes is just one little slip and you’ll find yourself to be a lawbreaker – and you will come under God’s condemnation as a result.
Wouldn’t you rather freely receive from Him who freely gives, and drink without cost the living water? Humble yourself and cast away your worthless idols; trust in the risen Christ alone, and He will forgive your sin and heal you of your backsliding. Be earnest and repent; call on the Lord while he may be found.
