Pringle Teaches If Anyone Remains Sick Christ Died In Vain?

Pringle said,

“There’s a big difference between truth and fact. The facts are you might have a bad back but the truth is you’re healed. The facts are you might have continual illnesses through your body but the truth is you’re perfectly made whole by the power of Jesus dying on that cross. Don’t let Him die in vain! Don’t let Him take thirty nine stripes across his back for nothing! Reach out and take a hold of all that He purchased for you from heaven.” – Phil Pringle, Day 3: Friday, Presence Conference 2012, 13/04/2012.

Watch him say it here:

Please pray for those who heard this teaching from Pringle and took this to heart. These are desperate, vulnerable and hurting people who went to the front to get healed by Phil Pringle. Please pray for their well-being.

(Edit: 13/05/2012)

It is delusional to separate fact from truth. Pringle does this often. From Phil Pringle’s blog:

Healing

1 Peter 2:24-25 – “..by whose stripes you were healed.”

“Were healed” – past tense. No matter what the illness was, it has been healed, whether physical, emotional, mental.

There’s always a difference between facts and truth! Appropriating truth is a fight, just like Joshua possessing Canaan. God said, “I have given you the land’ before they have even set foot there!

Appropriating truth into our lives is a fight against giants who try to oppose us possessing what is ours in Christ!

We appropriate truth (like ‘we are’ healed) with our mouth wielding the sword of the Spirit – the ‘Word of God!

SPEAK TRUTH TODAY, INSTEAD OF JUST THE FACTS!

See you in church!

Pringle See Pringle Do – C3 Egging The Community With Marketing Ploys

Jesus said “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness” (Matt 6:33) and NOT, “seek first 30, 000 easter eggs.” C3 Church came up with an ‘innovative’ way to market and celebrate Christmas this year at their church. Their website advertised an ‘Easter Egg Chopper Drop’.

The C3 Church had attached to the central picture a link to this pdf.

DL-Postcard-e-invite

This only goes to show that Phil Pringle and the C3 Movement have converted to Furtickism. This Easter Egg Chopper Drop is not innovative at all. This concept was originally Steven Furtick’s idea. Furtick writes,

“They laughed at us.
Almost everybody did.
The ones who didn’t laugh in our face must have been laughing behind our backs.

And with good reason, mind you.
We were laughing too.
It was a dumb idea, and it shouldn’t have worked.
But it did work.

Last Easter, with a fledgling 2 month old congregation of about 200, we pulled off an Easter event that made headlines.
It involved 50,000 Easter Eggs falling from the sky and thousands of dollars in prizes.
2,500 people showed up.
No one went to the hospital.
No drunk moms pulled each other’s hair out fighting over the prize winning eggs.
And we made a statement to our community:
We’re here to play ball. Happy Easter Charlotte.

We’re going to do it again this year.
The 2nd Annual Elevation Egg Drop.
Bigger and better than before.
You wait and see.

BONUS: This year, we’ve already heard of at least a dozen other churches who are going to do the event in their own cities.
We’ve been able to help many of them.
That makes me thankful.
Thankful that our stupidity is contagious and is going to help lots of other churches reach their communities with their unique (and hopefully better) versions of this Easter Egg Hunt on steroids.

I remember more than one pastor telling me what an unwise move it was.
It had never been done before, and it could flop.

True, but it could also not flop. It could be a monster success, and possibly even catch on all over the country.

Don’t you think every mammoth concept was downright laughable until it was a reality?
Inherent in any vision that has the possibility of really taking off is the possibility of really tanking, right?

Do you even think that maybe if people aren’t laughing at your ideas, you aren’t dreaming big enough?

Abraham and Sarah laughed at God’s idea.
Not a good move, guys.
But understandable.

When you think you have a good idea, and the people you trust are behind it, and you believe the best you can that God is the author of it…
Let people laugh.
Laugh along with ‘em.
And go for it.

The more the idea makes you laugh, the better the chance it’s from God.

If it fails, laugh even harder and learn something from it.
(By the way, the more expensive the failure, the more you’d better learn.)

If it succeeds, laugh at that too.
Because you know that without the blessing of God you would truly be a laughingstock.

Bottom line:
If it isn’t worth laughing at, is it really worth doing?” – Steven Furtick, http://www.stevenfurtick.com/elevation/let-%E2%80%98em-laugh/, 23/03/2007.

C3 said in their pdf,

“Come and watch as 30,000 chocolate eggs shower down from a helicopter and then hunt them down yourself!”

How much do 30,000 easter eggs cost? And how much would hiring a helicopter be? While people are celebrating this expensive ‘easter event’, remember who is paying for it: the vulnerable, poor and desperate through Pringle’s false teaching. We know he teaches that God wants to bless people financially if they give sacrificially or give money to him to unlock their financial miracle. (See archives)

So why is C3 Church doing this then? This is simply another form of advertising for Phil Pringle’s Presence Conference.

In relation to this advert, another add pops up on the myc3church.net. A massive advert for John bevere attending the C3 Oxford Falls easter services.

They also mention him in their chopper drop flyer,

“Join us for our 10am EASTER SUNDAY service, with guest speaker John Bevere.”

C3 is giving platform to a gnostic teacher who preaches a different gospel. They are rebelling against God’s Word where God says,

“Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work.” 2 John 1:9-11

Read about this dangerous teacher in these articles below:

Is The Presence Conference Inviting Dishonest Men To Take Advantage of People?

What’s So Severe About Bevere?

Again, we must ask why C3 is continually promoting these delusional cult-like speakers through their manipulative marketing techniques. Why do they want to be associated with these cult-like messiahs and ‘anointed ones’ who preach false messages and gospels?

Any pastor or church can invite a fraud into their meetings by accident. However, when a church insists on inviting a fraud in spite of advanced warning – what should one conclude about that church?

From: http://www.tompapania.info/ (Accessed 09/06/2011)

We will now pay, not US$20k, but US$50,000 to the first person who can produce authentic certified USA government documents, that validate Tom Papania’s “From Mafia to Minister” Gambino mafia claims about himself. This prizemoney has still not been claimed! (To claim this prize, please email: mafiaprizemoney@optusnet.com.au)
Thomas Anthony Papania is a fraud! Tom Papania was NEVER a Gambino mafia boss! Tom Papania was NEVER even a member of the Gambino mafia family of New York!
Tom sells his “From Mafia to Minister” testimony tapes, CDs, DVDs, and collects a percentage of the offerings taken at the church services where he is guest speaker! Tom Papania is, therefore, obtaining financial advantage via deception – fraud!

  • View Tom’s Atlanta District Court transcripts (2-Apr-1987), “I was never a Mafia member!”
  • View Tom’s Atlanta District Court transcripts (3-Apr-1987), “I don’t want any part of joining Gambino mafia!”
  • Gangland News USA editor, Jerry Capeci, replies and says,”Tom Papania is a fraud!”
  • Focus on the Family USA, replies and says,”We have doubts about Tom’s testimony!”
  • Prisons Ministry USA, replies and says,”We have cut off all contact with Tom!”
  • Federal Bureau of Prisons, USA – Tom awaiting Atlanta jury verdict, & subsequent acquittal.
  • Gwinnett Court, Georgia, 1985: Tom Papanier’s name change documents, Tom Papanier becomes Tom Papania!
  • Sedgwick Court, Kansas, 1965: Tom Papanier the caryard burglar, and TV shop burglar – not mafia hitman!
  • Kansas Bureau of Investigation: Tom Papanier’s arrest and prison record, Kansas.

All of the USA government documents presented above are certified copies, obtained DIRECTLY from the variously listed USA government departments. The documents have been presented exactly as received. The contact details of those various USA courts and USA law enforcement agencies are also provided, so you are encouraged to make your own enquiries, should you wish to verify this information.
If you are unfamilar with the claims Tom Papania makes about himself, in his compelling “true” story, here is a brief summary… * Age 15, Tom claims he found a rusty gun, which he supposedly used to rob a nearby Mafia storefront. * Tom claims he and his friends repeated this robbery – 4 times – stealing wallets AND pants, so they wouldn’t be chased!! * By age 17, Tom claims that he had earned a trusted position within the Gambino Mafia family. * At age 19 (1963), Tom supposedly received his first contract, and was asked to shoot (but not kill) two men. * Tom claims he was arrested by the police immediately afterwards – the Gambinos had set him up, to see if Tom would “talk!” * Tom claims he kept his vow of silence, and was sentenced to 2 x 5-10 year prison terms, of which he served 5 1/2 years. * After Tom’s release from prison, Carlo Gambino allegedly sent for Tom, offering him 2 nightclubs as a reward. * By age early 30’s, Tom claims he was controlling over 40 different restaurants and businesses. * Paul Castellano took over from Carlo Gambino, with Tom claiming to work directly for Paul Castellano, from now on. * Tom arrested again, and spent another 2 years in prison. * Before release, Tom claims the prison Chaplain said Tom was “different” and should consider becoming a priest. * After prison, Tom claims he went back to the Gambino businesses, and was earning $millions per year. * At age 39 (1983), Tom supposedly opened 10 restaurants in 11 months in Atlanta, Georgia, and he was extremely wealthy. * Tom claims that in 1984, God gave him an offer too good to refuse! * In 1984, Tom claims he became a “christian” and left the Gambino mafia family.

Why does the name Tom Papania NEVER feature in ANY of the publications on the history of the Gambino mafia family of New York, USA?

These Australian churches were warned repeatedly beforehand, yet they still allowed him to speak. They were either invited repeatedly to view the evidence, or were given access to all of the evidence:

Christian City Church, Oxford Falls, NSW, February 2004

Garden City Church, Mt Gravatt, QLD, September 2004

Southside Church, Adelaide, SA, August 2005

Crossway Baptist Church, Burwood, VIC, August 2005

One CCC Oxford Falls pastor replied as follows (Monday 1st March 2004, 9:57am):

“I don’t know who you are and therefore you have no credibility in my eyes. Right or wrong about Tom Papania is irrelevant because you have no authority! You delude yourself thinking God has appointed you, but you are a self appointed crusader, unsubmitted and rebellious. You need help.”

This very same CCC Oxford Falls pastor requested a meeting, which we agreed to, however, he then cancelled his very own meeting, before it was held, and refused to communicate any further. A number of CCC pastors (including the Senior Pastor) received personal invitations to view the USA government documentation (at a time and date of their choice) that proved Papania was a fraud, but none of these pastors ever replied. Was not one pastor at CCC Oxford Falls, able to discern that Tom Papania was a FAKE, despite being warned repeatedly beforehand?

Does CCC Oxford Falls leadership have spiritual discernment?

Does CCC Oxford Falls leadership value money more than truth?

Holy Spirit, please open the eyes of our hearts!

Ex-policeman Robert E Taylor Jr, claims to have information that validates Tommy’s story. He has been asked many, many, many times to produce this evidence, but nothing appears! Not one single page of official government documentation has been produced! This is a typical email reply, from Robert E Taylor (info@taylorgroup.net):

Robert Taylor denies reality!

Don’t you think it’s time to repent, Tommy? Good Friday was for you too!

Jesus & The Easter Story According to Pringle

Phil Pringle in his book ‘Hope’ adds to scripture and believes that Jesus went to hell. In this excerpt, Pringle also apparently believes that Jesus lost his divine nature on the cross. Here is the excerpt from his book:

“Laying him down on the cross means nothing to the soldier. He has executed thousands. It’s just another body. Like the limb of an animal, he stretches out the arm of Jesus, finding the point in the palm of his hand to place the rusty spike. The hammer descends in full force. With just one punch, Jesus’ hand is fastened to the wood. He moans with pain, yet an even greater pain is stealing over Him. By the tim His other hand is pinned, He is overwhelmed with a sickness deeper than flesh. All the murders, lying, corruptions, perversions and depravities of all kinds, betrayals, blasphemies, hatreds, fears, madness and rage all pour into his body like the sourest of bile pouring into the bowl. He screams as the long iron peg is hammered through his joined feet. They hoist Him up, then drop the tall post into the open ground. His weight jerks on the nails, tearing open the wounds.

But even this pain is weak compared to the maladies gathering on His frame. Cancers of every kind, pains and diseases, deformities, deafness, blindness, growths and leprosies, all the diseases of mankind disfigure His body. Then a malignant evil, monstrous rage, approached with a mouth large enough to swallow Him whole. Jesus is hobbled with constriction and bondage burying His mind, emotions and soul into chains of bitter, fiery malevolence. Paralyzed with every kind of evil, God allows every sin, sickness and bondage to fall upon His only Son, so the deliverance of every person ever born will be possible.

Jesus’ eyes flutter open and the eerie feeling of hanging midair, feeling the breeze across His face and seeing His mother weeping far below, briefly brings a quiet across His soul. But then it rages again. All the fury of hell pours on Him like a volcano exploding. Seeing John, He tells him to care for Mary, His mother. Are there no disciples? He searches for friends but only sees mockers and scorners. One though, a soldier, a centurion, sees the peace and hope in the face of Christ. Others see it too. Thieves crucified either [pg 81] side of him see it. One seeks salvation. Jesus gives hope to a hopeless man, right there in the most hopeless of all situations. “Today,” His parched lips mumble to the thief with a strength, dignity and clarity for all nearby to hear, “I’ll see you in paradise.”

Faith rises. He forgives all those taunting and mocking their prey. His heart gathers strength. But then the blackest of moments comes. A presence He has always felt, even through all the scourging and torture, through all the mockery and betrayal, now lifts. He feels something he has never ever felt: alienation from God, from His own beloved Father. He screams. No pain has felt like this pain. His soul is torn like a rag, left dangling without meaning in the universe. The ultimate despair fills His soul. He cries out, asking why God has to forsake Him at this point when He needs Him the most! Alone, alone, so alone. Yet, even here, though severed from His Father and His home, Jesus finds “rest in hope,” knowing His Father’s word supersedes any feelings He has. Within minutes, without the life of God anywhere connected to him, Jesus, as a flesh and blood-only man expires, throwing himself upon God, his Father, with a final prayer: “Into your hands I commit my spirit.”

He dies in hope-not the hope of wishful thought “hoping” He will rise again-no, He dies in the full assurance that within just three days, He will be back, ready to ascend to Heaven, to His father, to the throne of God.

His hope becomes our hope, without which, Paul says, we of all people would be most miserable, because of the things we must suffer in following Christ. But this hope is supreme. It is the hope of eternal life, meaning that there is a place prepared for us for that is eternal life, and there is a body, the same as that with which Jesus arose, for eternal living.

The sacrifice is complete. In one final heaving breath, Jesus roars, “It is finished!” His eyes close, fluttering with agony. A long moan escapes His lungs. His body hangs limp and lifeless. The weight of the entire iniquities of all humankind has crushed the life from the Lamb of God. His now dead body robbing the soldiers of the final torture of breaking his legs.

Yet, just as suddenly, He’s awake again! The searing red, superheated atmosphere around him eats like acid into His face. Thick blackness, almost like a substance, seems to suck the air from His lungs. Barely breathing, struggling for air, He aches for just something cool and moist. But the heat is inescapable and there is no relief, no water, no cool. Hands are clawing at Him. Powerful hands pick Him up and throw Him down again and again. A chorus of raucous laughter fills the cavern.

Slowly, his eyes adjust. He sees faintly the contorted faces of heavy, powerful and evil figures crowded all around, filled with rage unpacified, a merciless, sour revenge. Jesus finds His feet and stands. The great beasts look bewildered. How could He rise? They rush at Him, but a mysterious light glows from Him. An unspotted purity, something never seen in these dark domains: holiness! No matter how hard they try, it seems each dark demon is weakened, even powerless, in the presence of this One. Before they can reach Him, their knees give way, their legs fail and they fall. The power of His sacrifice fills the cavern like the scent of a million roses, overpowering every stench of the minions of Satan. Gathering strength and His face unflinching, Jesus begins a lone march through the tunnels of Hades, scattering demons in His powerful stride. They screech and howl, clinging to the walls, trying to outdo each other, throwing themselves at the Son of God, but their strength has evaporated in the presence of this One. With every step, Jesus seems to glow brighter. His light blinds their eyes in the deep dark. No matter how many gather, they all fall to the side, Every step Jesus takes sends a shudder down through to the foundations of this endless abyss.

After what seems like a day, He arrives at the core, the very throne of darkness. He strides to the writhing creature filling the seat. For a second there is a dim recollection from eons ago. The beast remembers this one. He sat on the very throne he lusted for. This is the Son-the very son of Yahweh! Fear, rage and a hatred deeper than the abyss itself spews out the mouth of the devil as he runs at Jesus, who simply stands His ground. With every step the great creature shrinks, like wind leaving a balloon, the giant figure cowers before Him. Jesus grasps the beast and throws him like a doll to the ground. Weakened to a bag with a puff of wind, Satan whines in the dust. Lifting his right leg and bringing down his foot with full force, Jesus’ heel sinks into the head of the now feeble creature. Satan’s head implodes. He writhes in pain, screaming and moaning, shaking head to toe. Demons look on in horror, slinking back as Jesus stands tall. A set of keys dangle from the side of the now defeated Satan. Tearing them from their loop, Jesus jangles them above his head, declaring, “I now have the keys of hell and death! I have defeated death, hell and the devil. At My name every knee from this place will bow! When anyone speaks in My name, your power will break. Your authority in every and any domain whatsoever, has been stripped from you today. My servants will enforce this victory throughout the entire Earth and you will be powerless to prevent it! God has spoken!”

Hell shakes, shudders and sways. Jesus rises from the ground and keeps rising, through all the dungeons, holes and caves. A force greater than any felt here before keeps lifting Him higher. His lungs filled with sweet air. His eyes open in the dark tomb, feeling the cool air of Earth in the morning. His heart pounds in His chest. Healing streams through every part of His three-day dead corpse. Sitting up now, strength surges into His muscles. A little giddy, He stands, gains balance and blinks at the bright light streaming past the large, round stone.

Heavenly angels stand by the entrance. The tough Roman quaternion is lying unconscious on the ground. Folding his grave cloths at the end of the slab, Jesus strides from the tomb in to the garden, deeply pulling into His nostrils the aroma of the beauty of the morning, smiling that pain has passed. Joy has come. His first words are, “Thank You, Father.” More than just coming back to life as He had been, He now walks in a newly-made body. He looks different, yet the same. He feels eternal, yet earthly as well. His now-undying resurrection body is alive and deathless. This gift He will give to any who receives Him. Eternal life, conscious and alive, more alive than ever before, with a body equipped for an unending life of unthinkable adventures, creations and discovery!” – Phil Pringle, Hope, 2011, pg 80-84.

The Presence of Folly?

Phil Pringle gives this good advice,

“We need to distrust those who flatter us. Ingenuine praise has mixed motives behind it. Insincere admiring strokes your ego and blinds judgment. Being ‘charmed’ suspends discernment. Be wise. Know the difference. Fools fall for flattery.” – Phil Pringle, The Leadership Files Vol 2, File 48. The Real Thing.

So how should C3 leaders members feel when Pringle and his church staff send out emails and adverts like this? Should they take Pringle’s good advice? Or should they fall for his marketing schemes?

(From: C3 Church Events <events@myc3church.net>
Date: Tue, Mar 6, 2012. . .
Subject: 4 Days of Presence: Register TODAY to enjoy Box Seats at Opening Night!)

Why does C3 advertise this event as the “ultimate Presence experience?” Wasn’t the point of Presence (according to Phil) to have a God encounter?

By the way, don’t forget how awesome Furtick is. His voice will equip and inspire you! You should already know Furtick’s message and voice is going to preach the gospel and glorify Jesus equip YOU! (Maybe if you touch the hem of his suit, Furtick might heal you.)

(From: “C3 Church Events” <events@myc3church.net>
Date: 07/03/2012 . . .
Subject: 4 Days of Presence: Register TODAY to receive Steven Furtick product arriving on your doorstep!)

Why does C3 think they are “privileged to be the first to host Steven in Australia?” Claims are being made that Steven and his church are a cult.

(From: C3 Church Events <events@myc3church.net>
Date: Thu, Mar 8, 2012 at 10:55 AM
Subject: 4 Days of Presence: Day 3 – YOUR friend on US)

The worst thing ANY family can do is share “the experience with friends and family.” Do you want your friends to have Pringle fleece them of thousands dollars or encourage them to empty their bank accounts to buy miracles from God in their unbelief? He has done this also in 2010 and 2009 at his miracle offering ‘sermons’.

(From: C3 Church Events <events@myc3church.net>
Date: Fri, Mar 9, 2012. . .
Subject: 4 Days of Presence: Day 4 – Dining Voucher!
)

Clearly the Presence Conference is all about YOU. No? What else would C3 use to convince people to come? Surely all this indulgent-Christianity has gone too far? Surely they would advertise that it’s all about Jesus… Right?

(Source: http://www.myc3church.net/presence12/experience.html)

C3 says,

“The first 200 people through the Expo will receive a Conference show bag jam-packed with discount vouchers, a free message DVD and other goodies. If you have never been to Presence before or you are coming alone, our TLC Team would love to meet and look after you. We have a dedicated meeting spot right near the Info Desk for you to connect with our friendly team over coffee before being guided to a reserved seat!”

Don’t you wonder this Presence Conference is God centered? Don’t you question who is paying for all these indulgences and freebies? What are the chances that people who empty their bank accounts to buy a miracle from God, will be the one’s paying for all the freebies, enticements and indulgences?

The way that C3 has marketed this event under the leadership of Pringle, haven’t they used “ingenuine praise” with “mixed motives?” Is the event about God or you? Or is this about C3 and Pringle’s desire to see churches be branded into the C3 movement?

Hasn’t C3 used the above marketing to “flatter us?” If you were a delegate, don’t you think hero treatment, “strokes your ego and blinds judgment” whether the admiration is sincere or not? If C3 has gone at lengths to target Christians like this in their marketing, how can Christians prevent “being ‘charmed’?” How can they “be wise” and “know the difference” when C3 is treating them like “fools” to “fall for flattery?”

Take Pringle’s advice, “Distrust those [Phil Pringle and C3] who flatter us.”

What’s wrong with this picture? Isn’t that a picture of Perry Noble preaching at Steven Furtick’s Code Orange Revival January 2012?

Source: Christian post

Source: Christian post

Steven Furtick’s behaviour and response to Perry Noble’s talk were very different to Matt Chandler’s sermon, ‘God is For God’. Here is Matt Chandler’s good sermon at Code Orange (observe Steve Furtick’s body language).

In stark contrast (and in almost exact opposition) to Matt Chandler’s message, Perry noble preached on “Blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear”. (Matthew 13:16.) Perry Noble ripped this passage out of context and applied it to Steve Furtick, Elevation Church and everyone else present, implying how blessed everyone is to behold Furtick and be apart of his work. Chris Rosebrough did a review of Perry Noble’s sermon here at :Fighting For The Faith’:

January 18, 2012

Is Steven Furtick the One Whom the Prophets Longed to See?

This episode of F4F compares the Biblical writings of the prophets to Perry Noble’s “sermon” at the Code Orange Revival on January 17th, 2012.

Chris Rosebrough put the scripture Perry used in it’s proper context. To use this scripture to imply that Steven Furtick IS a Messiah is dangerous.

It is no wonder Chris Rosebrough labeled Steve Furtick and his church a cult.

Pringle says he watched the Code Orange Revival and is looking “4ward 2 Steve Furtick wit us #Presence2012“. More information on Prigle and Steven Furtick can be read here:

Phil Pringle Endorsing Problematic Steve Furtick for Presence Conference 2012

Looking at the picture at the top again, can anyone now see the problem with the image? Do you think Steven Furtick endorses Perry Noble’s messianic message of himself? Does Furtick see himself as some Messianic figure? Why is Phil Pringle preparing the way for Furtick to speak at his Presence Conference?

Pringle Believes It’s Gods Will That Jesus Died To Make Believers Rich

After reading the below blurb, these quotes of Pringle should make sense,

“There is a direct correlation between the measure of God’s Word in our lives and the measure of prosperity we enjoy.” – Phil Pringle, Faith, 2001, pg 14.

“When we have no room for the Word of God in our lives we have no room for success.” – Phil Pringle, Faith, 2001, pg 14.

How can this ‘truth’ comfort any believer who faces poverty daily? Isn’t a believer to live by faith and not by sight? If a believer fails in his job, is the Word of God absent in his life? What is the secret to remain in salvation that promises wealth and success?

We’ve got commend Phil Pringle for ‘researching’ this first before claiming everyone he looked up to be misinformed. However, here are some verses he clearly hasn’t considered.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:3

So is the kingdom made up material things? Is the kingdom in this age?

“My kingdom is not of this world.” John 18:36

Truly Jesus has blessed us when he died, ascended and gave us his Spirit. But did Jesus bless us materially through this cross-pentecost process?

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” Ephesians 1:3 (Emphasis mine)

If there was any place Paul could have said, “Jesus has blessed us with every material blessing,” that would have been it. Paul makes it clear that Jesus ONLY shared the “Jews’ spiritual blessings” to the Gentiles.

“For if the Gentiles have shared in the Jews’ spiritual blessings, they owe it to the Jews to share with them their material blessings.” Romans 15:27 (Emphasis mine)

With this in mind, read the below blurb from Pringle’s book ‘Dead For Nothing? What The Cross Has Done For You’ (2000):

“2 Corinthians 8v9 “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that enough He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.”

Paul is referring to the fact that Jesus Christ died without one possession to his name, without one stitch of clothing on His body without any money at all so that he could take poverty to the cross and secure its defeat for those who embrace the saviour.

The Scripture is couched right in the middle of two chapters written to the Corinthians dealing almost exclusively with the subject of money. Many commentators have great difficulty admitting that this passage is actually dealing with money. In fact, I don’t think I’ve yet found one who agrees that Paul is speaking regarding finances.  The most common comment is that it is a reference to spiritual riches. The Thompson Chain Reference Bible is a wonderful resource and study bible, but at this point he too in the margin describes what Paul is referring to as ‘spiritual riches’; Jamieson, Fausset and Brown comes the closest saying, ‘ …in the heavenly glory which constitutes His riches, and all other things, so far as is really good for us’, Matthew Henry interprets it as, ‘rich in the love of God, rich in the blessings of the new covenant, rich in the hopes of eternal life.’ The Word Biblical Commentary, claiming a team of respectful international scholars who were a ‘showcase of the best in evangelical critical scholarship for a new generation’, states regarding this verse; ‘Here, surely health and wealth are ciphers, not for material prosperity and penury but for spiritual exchange as the Incarnate Christ became what we are, so we could become what He is.’ For that to be consistent, the scripture would have to read, ‘Christ…became (spiritually) poor, that you might become (spiritually) rich.’ This then becomes an absurd, almost blasphemous proposition. To say or even intimate that Jesus Christ was a spiritually poor person is ludicrous.

Here is a person who raised the dead, healed the sick, displayed complete prowess over demons and the devil, revealed truths regarding God, man and the entire purpose of God that have withstood every kind of test and scrutiny. This person was not a spiritually poor person. Rather it was because of His spiritual wealth that he was able to go to the cross and bear away the curses that afflict mankind. Even if we limit His poverty to the time He was on the cross, claiming it was our poverty He took, are we to conclude that the ‘hope’ (Acts 2v26) he entered into was a spiritually poor position!? To maintain and kind of hope, and faith through His ordeal demonstrates an extraordinary spiritual richness. In our effort to read more into the statement than is actually there we make fools of ourselves and prevent God fulfilling His great promises in our lives. Jesus became poor regarding the wealth of this world on the cross, that those who receive Him may become rich with the wealth of this world.

Right at this point many people, (mostly Christians) have a terrible amount of trouble accepting this fact. The scheme of the devil has been to deceive the Church into believing that it is far more pious to be poor than it is to be rich. Suspicion is cast upon those who have accumulated wealth. God is seen as one who would rather his people be poor than enjoy abundance in their world. Abundance has always been the will of God for His people.

Getting over a poverty mindset however, is a lot more difficult than most realise. A spirit of religiosity is at the root of this consciousness. Paul encountered it as early as the first century when dealing with errors of the Colossian church.

Colossians 2v18 “Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind…”

The religious spirit enjoys being ascetic because it draws pride from the effort. This spiritual indulgence actually only severs a person from Christ. As Esau was cheated out of his inheritance so the believer can be cheated out of theirs. Ascetism, (self inflicted austerity and poverty) posing as spirituality cheats believers out of all the blessings Christ has won for them through the work of the cross. The thinking that says high spirituality is at the expense of physical blessing defrauds the believer of their inheritance, whereas the Word causes us to gain it (Act 20v32).” – Phil Pringle, Dead For Nothing? , 2000, pg. 53-56. (Emphasis mine.)
